EGL 350, Poe: Stony Brook’s Summer Classes Facebook Page

[Cross-posted at EGL 350: Poe course blog.]

I wrote an advertisement for EGL 350, the Edgar Allan Poe class, on Stony Brook University’s Facebook page for its summer courses.  However, I cannot seem to make the advertisement accessible unless you have a Facebook page to login. I was able to make the page available to the public in previous years, so if anyone knows how to fix this problem, please email me at derek.mcgrath@stonybrook.edu.
In the mean time, I will copy the Facebook ad over to this blog:
EGL 350: Edgar Allan Poe: This Summer Session 1 Dec G digs deep into the literature of that master of the macabre and his continuing influence on contemporary art and popular culture. EGL 350 is also a collaborative class, as students will have an opportunity to shape the schedule by helping to determine assigned readings. The syllabus can be found in the class’s web site, to which students will contribute their own writings: www.EGL350Poe.tumblr.com.

In order to give a concise summary of Poe’s philosophy of literature, students will look at some of his less frequently read texts, and will look at examples from popular culture—video games, comic books, television shows, and films—that reveal his influence. While the syllabus already includes pop culture examples from musicians Lou Reed and Lady Gaga, actors such as Vincent Price, and television shows such as The Simpsons, I welcome any suggested examples. For more information, email me at derek.mcgrath@stonybrook.edu. Seats are still available but filling up fast.
